Export Settings for Images and Panoramas

A reference for the export settings of images and panoramas.

The images and panoramas that you create in Twinmotion can be exported locally to your computer. Before exporting them, you can adjust various export settings.

Images and panoramas can also be embedded into Local or Cloud Presentations, and panoramas can be embedded into Panorama Sets on Twinmotion Cloud. For more information, refer to Sharing and Collaborating.

Global and Individual Export Settings

Some of the settings you choose for exporting images and panoramas are global and are applied to all images or panoramas, but you can also choose individual export settings for each image or panorama.

To access the global export settings, click Image or Panorama in the Export panel.

The following table describes the global export settings for images and panoramas.

Setting

Description

Format

Sets the file format of exported images or panoramas.

By default, images and panoramas are saved in PNG.

PNG

  • Exports in 8-bit RGB format.

  • Compressed using lossless compression, which results in file sizes larger than JPGs but without any data loss.

JPG

  • Exports in 8-bit RGB format.

  • Compressed using lossy compression, which results in smaller file sizes than PNGs but with some data loss.

EXR

  • OpenEXR High Dynamic Range (HDR) bitmap file.

  • Exports in 32-bit RGB format.

  • Contains a large quantity of information on exposure, color, and tonality.

  • Ideal for post-production editing in graphics applications.

  • When saved as panoramas, EXR files can be imported as HDRI files into Twinmotion or any other programs that support this type of light map.

Color gradients (in Ambience > FX > Color grading) are not applied to exported EXR files. However, Contrast and Saturation levels in this setting will be applied.

Options: PNG, JPG, EXR

Motion blur

Enables or disables Motion blur on exported images and panoramas. When enabled, motion blur is visible on animated objects, characters and vehicles.

By default, this setting is disabled.

Refinement (for images only)

Enables or disables Refinement on exported images, and sets the refinement quality.

When Refinement is disabled, the only area of the scene that is used to create reflections is the area that is visible in the Viewport. When Refinement is enabled, the range of the area that affects reflections is increased beyond the Viewport, which can result in more realistic looking reflections. The higher the quality of the refinement setting, the larger the area of the scene that will be used.

By default, this setting is disabled.

Options: Off, Low, Medium, High

Enabling Refinement on images is GPU-intensive and may result in the unexpected closing of Twinmotion.

Max lighting

Enables or disables Max lighting on exported images and panoramas.

You should enable this setting when exporting a group of day scenes and night scenes at the same time; this ensures that night scenes are not under-exposed.

By default, this setting is disabled.

Options: On, Off

3D Mode

Enables or disables 3D Mode (stereoscopic view) on exported images and panoramas.

For available image export resolutions, refer to the Output size setting.

For available panorama export resolutions, refer to the 360 Resol. setting.

By default, this setting is disabled.

Options: On, Off

360 Resol. (for panoramas only)

Sets the resolution of exported panoramas. A higher value increases the size of panoramas, and increases the time it takes for Twinmotion to export the panoramas.

Panoramas can be exported in Standard or in 3D mode. The size of exported panoramas differs depending on the resolution and mode that is selected.

By default, the resolution for panoramas is set to 4K.

Options: 2K, 4K, 6K, 8K, 16K

Individual Export Settings

To access the individual export settings, click the image or panorama in the Media dock. A tab named Image or Pano that contains the settings is added to the Ambience panel.

The following table describes the individual export settings for images and panoramas.

Setting

Description

Output size (for images only)

Sets the output size (resolution) and aspect ratio for locally exported images and images displayed in Local or Cloud Presentations.

Images can be exported in Standard or in 3D mode. The size of exported images differs depending on the resolution and mode that is selected.

By default, the resolution for images is set to 2K.

Options: 2K Full HD 1920 x 1080, 4K UHD 3840 x 2160, Custom

To view images using custom output sizes in a presentation, enable Media framing in the export settings of the presentation when creating it. This activates the Safe Frame option in the Preferences panel of the presentation, letting viewers decide whether or not to view images using their custom aspect ratios.

Tiled rendering (for images only)

When Tiled rendering is enabled, you can export and render images at very high resolutions without being restricted by the memory limits of your computer's Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). When this option is enabled, images can be exported at a maximum custom resolution of 64K (up to 61440 x 61440 pixels).

If the custom output size of an image is set to a resolution higher than 8K (7680 × 4320), we recommend enabling this option to avoid GPU memory limits.

Export times can increase when enabling this option.

Limitations: Enabling Tiled rendering can affect the quality of the following visual settings in rendered images: Screen Space Reflections (SSR), Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), Global Illumination (GI), Lens flare, Depth of Field (DoF), and Bloom.

Applies a View set to the image or panorama.
